Fear is a natural response when we’re faced with the unknown. Whether it’s waiting for test results, dealing with a major life change, or walking through a season of uncertainty, fear can feel overwhelming. My best friend is currently facing one of the scariest moments of her life, worried about something that could change everything. And while I can’t take away her fear, I can remind her—and all of us—that God’s grace and mercy are bigger than any obstacle we may face.

Fear is Real, But So is God’s Power

It’s easy to say, “Don’t be afraid,” but when we’re in the middle of a storm, those words can feel impossible to live out. Fear creeps in when we feel out of control, when the “what ifs” start piling up, and when we’re staring at a future we can’t predict. But God never called us to live in fear—He calls us to live in faith.

2 Timothy 1:7 reminds us, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” That means fear is not from Him. Instead, He gives us strength, love, and clarity—even in the unknown.

Choosing Faith in the Midst of Fear

Faith doesn’t mean we ignore reality. It doesn’t mean we pretend everything is okay when it’s not. Faith means we trust that no matter what happens, God is still in control. He is still good. And He is still working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28).

So, how do we choose faith when fear feels stronger?

• Pray, even when you’re afraid. Bring your fears to God—He can handle them.

• Lean on His promises. The Bible is filled with reminders of His love and faithfulness.

• Surround yourself with support. We are not meant to carry our burdens alone.

• Speak life over the situation. Fear thrives in silence, but when we speak words of faith, we weaken its grip.

God’s Grace is Greater

No matter what challenges we face—illness, loss, uncertainty—God’s grace and mercy cover it all. He walks with us through every battle, and He never leaves us to fight alone. Even when we don’t understand His plan, we can trust His heart. If you’re struggling with fear today, know that you are not alone. God sees you, loves you, and holds you in the palm of His hand. Fear may try to shake you, but it will never be greater than the God who carries you. You are stronger than fear. You are covered by grace. You are held by the One who never fails.
